Telesin Street Shot Aluminum Grip for DJI Action 6: The Soft Shutter Solution

This review is based on testing detailed in our full video review, where Telesin sent me an entire ecosystem of Action 6 accessories to put through their paces. Watch the video for unboxing and hands-on testing of everything mentioned in this article, plus a deep dive into how these accessories work together as a cohesive system.

What It Is

The Telesin Street Shot Aluminum grip is a protective cage and external shutter system designed for the DJI Action 6. Its defining feature is a soft, responsive shutter button that solves one of the camera's biggest usability issues.

The Problem It Solves

The Action 6's built-in shutter button is notoriously stiff and difficult to press, especially with gloves or when you need quick, responsive control. This becomes even more critical when shooting with the Action 6's internal image stacking technology, which takes multiple frames and merges them for noise reduction and extended dynamic range. A stiff shutter button can introduce camera shake during exposure, which defeats the purpose of the stacking algorithm and can result in blurry, misaligned composite images.

The Telesin grip solves this with its easy-to-press external shutter, which eliminates shake from button pressure entirely. This is crucial for getting clean, sharp stacked images without the motion artifacts that would otherwise compromise the camera's computational photography advantages. The soft trigger feels more natural and provides better tactile feedback, letting you take intentional exposures without unintended vibration.

Build, Protection, and Stability

The aluminum construction is solid and premium without adding significant weight. The protective cage design safeguards the camera during rough handling or when mounted on vehicles, making it valuable insurance for your gear. The hotshoe mount accommodates a single accessory at a time—whether that's an external light, microphone, or other hotshoe-compatible device—without sacrificing access to the shutter button.

For both photo and video work, this grip is excellent for adding external lighting to a camera that still really struggles in low light. I tested this by mounting an external light on the hotshoe and shaking the rig aggressively. The weight never accidentally triggered the shutter, proving the button requires intentional pressure rather than being hair-trigger sensitive. For a deeper look at the Action 6's low-light challenges and how external lighting helps mitigate them, check out this video.

Tripod Integration

The 1/4"-20 UNC tripod thread on the bottom is a thoughtful inclusion that shouldn't be overlooked. It lets you mount the grip directly to any standard tripod, making it incredibly easy to lock down the camera for stationary work. This is especially useful when you're shooting with slower shutter speeds or trying to minimize vibration from the external shutter mechanism.

The Pocket Quirk

If you keep the camera set to "wake on shutter" mode while carrying it in a pocket, movement can trigger multiple unintended exposures until the camera locks itself. The fix is simple: one press of the shutter button unlocks it. It's a minor quirk, not a dealbreaker.

Verdict

The Telesin Street Shot Aluminum grip meaningfully improves the Action 6's usability for photography. The soft shutter button alone justifies the cost, and the protective aluminum construction provides genuine value without compromising portability. The tripod threading makes it a versatile tool for composed work.

The Telesin Ecosystem

Beyond the Street Shot grip, Telesin sent a comprehensive suite of accessories that work together seamlessly. The Lightweight Aluminum Cage serves as a stripped-down protective option with hotshoe mounting, giving you the option to choose between a full grip setup or minimal protection. The larger DisAdv carrying case accommodates the grip, camera, macro lens, ND filters, and batteries with room to spare, while the DisAdv mini case provides compact storage for smaller setups.

The MagFilm RGB light is a stackable LED designed as fill and accent lighting rather than a main light source. Its removable diffusion filter gives you control over output intensity, making it ideal for product photography or filling light in smaller areas. Multiple units can be stacked together for broader coverage.

The ND filter kit includes a CPL filter alongside ND8, ND16, and ND32 options. Initial testing shows excellent quality across the entire lineup. A full written review and dedicated video are coming soon once weather cooperates—we've had rain for weeks and need proper daylight for comprehensive filter testing.

Together, these accessories represent a thoughtful ecosystem designed to expand the Action 6's creative capabilities across photography, video, and mobility work.
